About the Founder

I am originally from Montgomery, AL, but I have lived in Utah since 2000. I received my B.A. in English and History from the University of Alabama and my M.Ed. in Secondary Education with an emphasis on Curriculum development from Christian Brothers University.

I initially decided to become a teacher because I was disappointed in the quality of instruction I had received at different points in my life. I began teaching in 2002, and I have spent most of my career working in private schools. My first posting in Park City allowed me to develop my own honors literature curriculum that incorporated writing and theater. The curriculum I developed was met with great enthusiasm from students and their parents, and I found that my Classical approach to teaching gave my students a sense of importance and control over their learning.

Upon leaving Park City and moving to the Salt Lake valley, I was dismayed at the lack of affordable, classical education. After working for two public charter schools in the valley, I realized that the difference between the quality of education received by more affluent families is palpable. I founded Mastery Learning Academy to change that – we offer top-notch, college preparatory education at a fraction of the cost of other private schools, thus, allowing more children the opportunity to reach their fullest potential via a competitive level of education.

I am passionate about the teaching and learning process and promise to give each student who enters Mastery Learning Academy an exceptional learning experience.
